Since arriving at my moms on Sunday, Ive kept pretty busy. My mom (81) is recovering from surgery and umdergoing radiation, and my stepfather (88) cant drive anymore and is having some cognative issues, so Im here for a few weeks to help out. Ive taken over the cooking; I so enjoy getting up and making breakfast for us. Today it was pancakes, and I've had a request for french toast tommorrow. Ive also been doing some deep cleaning and organizing in preperation for a little redecorating. Im a project person, so all of this is fun to me. My mom wants a French country feel, with a little New Orleans thrown in. To give me a feel for what she likes style wise, along with the fact she could see me living in France, we've been watching, "Escape to the Chateau". Im now in love with the show, the couple who are renovating the castle, (they are so sweet and endearing,) and their lifestyle of living local and off the land. Its the kind of life I envisioned for myself when I was young.
Yestreday we hit Big Lots and found some lanterns, garden pots and stools for her kitchen counter. The stools were nearly perfect, we wanted to recover the grey seats, so today we went shopping again. I found fabric that is perfect for what she wants, french country, the colors are what she has in her house; but she said she doesnt like roosters. I convinced her to give it a try, its just fabric and can be redone. She ended up liking the results so much that she went a bought a rooster lamp she had seen at Cracker Barrel. FOr me its fun decorating outside my style, and pushing my mom to get outside her comfort zone.
This isn't a quote, but it showed up on my Pintrest feed.
Im having a converstation with one of my friends and I ask him, "What defines you?" He responded with, "Nothing. A definition excludes the possibility for change." I think that is a fantastic answer.
